Thankfully, I wasn't home but two days before our homegame group decided to host a poker night. The group has been off their weekly schedule for some time now, and Mark kicked it off with a visciously yummy spread of hummous, pita, falafel, tabouleh, and an assortment of salad, rice, and meat sticks. It was soooo tasty! Pokerwise, it felt like we were all off our game. We played with eleven and for some strange reason the night seemed to drag and drag. I made a move I knew very well I shouldn't have (on that particular opponent) and busted out first. But that kind of stuff barely matters. We got our social fix with our friends and left very happy. Oh, and John took first, so he left with a bit more than just being happy.
And....the request was in that JenLeoLIVE return to some daily dramas. The fans want some heat. They want some action. They want a breather from what a great time I had in Australia. (but I'll show another picture of us having lunch in Kakadu. We were somewhat promised we'd see a bunch of crocs on the shore just below us, but the tide was low and there were none to be seen. I was tempted to throw some leftover chicken from our lunch into the water to entice the dangerous beasts, but the guide said no. Even after I told him I desperately needed a hair-raising adventure to write up in More Sand in My Bra.)
Well, I returned to two things.
John has joined Weight Watchers and lost 7.5 pounds in his first week. As you recall, we have a $1000 bet going and we're nearly out of time. I, did not lose or gain any weight while I feasted on roast dinners and consumed 3-5 drinks a night in Oz. I am absolutely right where I started this bloody thing and I've got the "before" picture to make any grown man (or woman) cry. Meanwhile, there are rumors that our friend Pauly has lost 20 lbs faster than we can count out our points for the day. Yes, John has gone points crazy. He can't talk about anything else besides how many points he has left in the day, or when the next Kings game is. In 45 minutes we're going to leave for another Weight Watchers meeting, my first, so I can get signed up and on track. Desperate measures are about to get very serious.
Secondly, I find myself in a position to reinvent myself. In the past several months I've found a new editor to take over the humor series, and I'm in the process of recruiting writers to take over my blog for travel writers, Written Road. Those are probably the two things I'm known most for. While it's a great time to move on, it leaves me with the excitement of getting to do whatever I want. And that can be a big question. I'll finish off the year hustling freelance work, and hopefully I can get some work that will allow me to join John in Australia for the Aussie Millions in January. After that, I might be keen on finding something more regular. No, I didn't just suggest that I wanted something vaguely resembling semblance, order, or dare I say, stable. I couldn't have. Banish the thought.
So, with that out on the table, let me go get ready for the WW meeting. Geez, I just don't know what I want to wear!
